Why I rebuilt DOKDO

I wanted to play an old game again. Keeping it running took me from an Android reconstruction to a browser port.

Play DOKDO in your browser

I first saw the model of Dokdo at the War Memorial of Korea. That visit led me to DOKDO, a sailing game released by Zzoo in 2017.

I remembered steering a small ship across open water, fishing between battles and taking one island after another. Years later I wanted to play it again, but its old Android build was no longer a good fit for current devices.

I rebuilt the recovered game for current Android versions first. It preserves the scenes, progression, controls and local save format. I replaced platform services that no longer worked.

The browser version came next. It uses the same reconstructed game with a responsive shell, browser saves and WebGL builds for mobile and desktop texture formats.

The shared sea is a browser addition. It lets nearby captains appear as ships with short messages and emotes. Those ships cannot affect combat, captures or saves.

Zzoo created and released the original DOKDO. This reconstruction is unofficial and not endorsed by the original developer.

I rebuilt it so I could play again on current devices and share the working browser version.
